What refrigerant do these systems use?
The MRCOOL DIY 5th Generation systems we list are described by the manufacturer as R-454B systems. R-454B is the lower-global-warming-potential refrigerant that replaced R-410A across much of the residential heat-pump market.
R-454B is classified A2L, which means mildly flammable. That classification is why installation, service, and disposal procedures for these systems are written the way they are, and why the work below stays with qualified people.

- The exact model number on that same label
- The current install manual for that model
- Whether your line set is the factory pre-charged one supplied with the system

What a pre-charged line set changes
The DIY Quick Connect line set ships charged and sealed from the factory. Because of that, a standard DIY installation does not involve opening the refrigerant circuit, pulling a vacuum, or adding charge — which is the specific reason this product line can be homeowner-installed at all.
It also means the line set is not a component to cut, shorten, or splice. If the route needs a different length, the answer is a different line set, not a modified one.
03Install
What still belongs with qualified people
Anything that opens the refrigerant circuit — recovery, recharging, diagnosing a suspected leak, or disposal at end of life — belongs with qualified personnel working from the current product documents.
A DIY product label does not authorize work beyond what the manual describes. If a connection will not seal or the system will not hold, stop and get qualified help rather than improvising.
